In 2008, Cosc’s Research Unit announced its "Call for Submissions" on the development of its Priority Research Programme from State agencies, NGOs and those interested parties, organisations and individuals concerned with the provision of services to those affected by domestic, sexual and gender-based violence in Ireland. The objective of this process was to engage with those individuals and agencies working in the areas of domestic, sexual and gender-based violence so as to ascertain their views as to the identification and prioritisation of key areas for exploration. All suggestions were carefully considered and informed the development of Cosc’s Priority Research Programmes.
Cosc's current research work is intended to continue Cosc’s development of knowledge to inform improvements in this area. The key step towards an improved and effective system is the implementation of the National Strategy for Domestic, Sexual and Gender-based Violence. There are some fundamental issues which require to be researched to support the National Strategy and these issues form the priorities for the current research programme implementation.
